market research on an idea

Hi everyone
I shoot a fair amount of talking heads where overhead fluorescent lights can be a problem. I've been working on a product to aid with controlling that when removing bulbs or turning them off is not an option. Other things I do: tape garbage bags/landscape fabric over them; flags/cards on stands. Some of these settings can be challenging when the ceilings are 15' high and no chance of moving a ladder around.

Would you be willing to share some of your methods you've used to block that light?

Thanks for your thoughts and Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Steve

Fly a flag over the subject with a C-stand. If you want to simply reduce the amount of overhead but not cut it entirely, fly a single or double net. That solution, of course, does nothing for the background. Turning off the overheads is the simplest solution but is frequently not possible. It also means you have to light all the background visible in the shot.

Some black air mattresses filled with helium? They make large lighting fixtures that are essentially helium-floated blimps. Why not float some up to block the overhead fluorescents? Don't forget to attach the ropes so you can retrieve them when you're done. :-)
