3rd Monitor on a Cheese Grater Mac

Hey folks,

I'm a television editor and currently I am editing on Avid in a 2-monitor set-up. One monitor has my bins and workspace and the other is used for full screen.

I'm trying to figure out how to get a 3rd (flat screen TV) involved.

Do I need a new card to give me a 3rd output?

Of course I'm looking for something simple and cheap. 😉

Here are my specs:
MacPro (early 2009) Processor 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Memory 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F1507) MC 7.0.4.3

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You'll need this:

The Decklink Mini Monitor (at the bottom with all the other models). $145.

For the older Mac Pro I've had great luck with the Intensity (for cheap) to BMD Decklink series (not cheap).

Glad PCI options are still viable :)

Do you not lose full screen mode if you have an IO card attached?

I don't use full screen mode, but for some reason i thought it was based on not having IO.

I think I've also heard of which you speak. I'm going to look into this.

Thanks for your help Glen!

Great info Eric!

I have a (DeckLink Intensity Pro HDMI HD PCI-e Card) on the back of my computer.

I tried hooking up a TV with the HDMI port and it gave no signal.

Maybe it's too early a version? It's circa 2009.

Anyway, I'll keep poking around.

Thanks for your input! 😊

Check the Desktop Video drivers version.
Maybe you need to see which work in that combo.

Thanks Shane!

That's really helpful! And a relief. I thought it was going to be much more expensive.

Have a great weekend!
