after effects alpha transparency becomes gray

Hi all -- our graphic designer has put together rolling credits for our film in after effects. At frame top and bottom, she has the credits dissolve to 0 opacity. She outputs a quicktime animation with alpha. When I bring this into Media Composer (up to date version 8), it seems to be blending with black at the same time. In other words, the white text becomes a flat dark gray as it becomes transparent. Any ideas or advice?

You need a straight alpha and not a premultplied one. Ask your after effects person to re-render.

I don't know what codecs and Avid workflow you're using, but I get my designers to render directly to DNxHD codec; makes my end of things (linking and/or importing) cleaner and much faster.
Neil.
