Media storage - File number limit in MXF and OMFI folders
on Oct 26, 2016 at 10:58:05 pm

Hi,

I am working with an old version of MC - 6.5.2 but on a Mac OS 10.10.5. I have recently discovered a number (sorry 000s) of audio files I'd like to use on future projects. They are just audio - i.e production sound, sound effects, and stereo music. I want to keep them on an external HDD (Mac format).

Does anyone have experience with this number of media files on Mac HDDs? (so far about 25,000) What do you know about the official and 'real world' limits to MC storage? And if there are limits, then are there other solutions?

(I do know that a PC system can be organized with numbered folders. But Mac OS cannot?)

Could converting .wav files into MXF work as a solution?

Ideas much appreciated,
M

Consolidate in batches to MXF media then you can have numbered folders. Omf files can't be in numbered folders.

Thanks Pat!

Question: How to Batch Consolidating audio to MXF files?

Would this be as simple as reimporting the wav files from the OMFI folder as MXF format?

Would this create sub folders automatically?

Thanks
M

Yup set audio project setting to MXF and import.

That's great! Thanks.

Once they are batch consolidated (into MXF folders) - do they automatically link with the original bin clips?

If you want to retain links then use batch import using the original master clips. But with audio setting set to mxf.

Hi,

An extra question: are numbered MXF folders created automatically when importing/batching converting either video or audio files? What is the limit for each folder? Is there a limit to numbered folders?

Thanks
M

No need to reply. I checked a previous 'lost' post which answered my question. 5000 files is the max and MC creates as many MXF folders as needed.
