Can Avid run without Quicktime?

We are on a PC Avid system at work,
and apparently Apple is advising uninstalling QT
on Windows machines. Newly discovered security issues.

Of course I advised holding off until I investigate.

Here is the article -

I guess time will tell if this is verified!

MC will work without QT but it moans about it during the install. Your import and export options will become somewhat limited.
I wouldn't fret too much about QT security. Just make sure you limit use of QT to import export tasks. Don't use it as a general playback tool.

One could disconnect from the internet your editing system and wouldn't security issues become a non-issue?

Well, yes -

Except I am also responsible for uploading vids, as well.
Small operation.

Note...you will NOT be able to work with any footage shot as ProRes QT, or any QT for that matter...without QT installed. There are many cameras and external recorders that record to QT. So if you remove QT, you must then find a solution to convert this footage to a format you can work with.

Anyone know if we can expect an official statement of some kind from AVID for all of us who carry software/hardware support for our licenses? Recommended practices without Quicktime? Whether or not to uninstall period?

Considering Quicktime is such a foundation, and if it's such a big risk, shouldn't there be some sort of urgent overture made?

I'm pinging a few of my vendors to see what the basic word is. Any further information is helpful. It all seems relatively un-official to take drastic steps at this point.

You don't need QT to run MC.
Without QT you lose QT impot and export options.
There are suggestions online to reduce the risk QT presents.

No offical Avid word as yet.

Dave C from Avid posted on Avid L2 that they are working on a solution but it's not expected until Q4.
