project settings for 1080i 25fps footage
on Feb 17, 2016 at 10:23:18 am

Hi
I have footage that was shot at 1080i and 25 fps.
When opening a new project in Avid though, I only have the option to choose between 1080i/50 or 1080p/25, which means that either the frame rate or the scan type don't fit the footage.
After asking a couple of people I decided to open it as a 1080i/50 project and imported all the media. But I still have my doubts about it. Did I make the right choice? I already started editing, so should I maybe batch import the footage with different format settings? Are there maybe additional settings hidden somewhere that I can control in order to make the project type compatible with my footage? What DNXHD setting should I use (does this matter)?
Yesterday I exported a little sequence and needless to say I had the interlace-stripes in the exported clip. I don't know if this would naturally happen because the footage was shot interlaced or could I have avoided the stripes by choosing different settings?
A lot of questions, but I am a little confused about this entire thing, so I hope someone here can give me a little guidance.
Thanks!

you di correctly - 1080p 25fps is Avid 1080i/50 - progressive frames interlaced is doubled, so 25fps progressive = 1080"p" = 1080p/25. 25fps interlaced = 1080"i" = 1080i/50

The number after the "i" or "p" indicates how many IMAGES per second there are. So...

1080p25 means 1920x1080...progressive...25fps.

1080i50 means 1920x1080...interlaced...25fps (since interlacing is two fields per frame, thus that number after the "i" is doubled).

OK. thanks Ricky and Shane, that is good to know. What does that mean for my further workflow. Let's say I want to export a sequence from the project and upload it to YouTube. Will I have to deinterlace every time or is there a way to change the export settings so Avid exports the sequence as a progressive file?
