Can Avid auto sync audio and video like Premiere and FCPX?

I've Googled this question, and haven't come across an answer I'm looking for. From what I'm finding, no, Avid can't anazlye the audio of a video clip and a wav recorded separately and sync them together. If I want to use Pluraleyes, I have to export my clips as AAFs.

Correct - Media Composer does not offer syncing via audio analysis like Premiere or Resolve. The workflow is to export AAF and use PluralEyes - Here is a blog a did on the process: http://24p.com/wordpress/?p=218

Waveform syncing apparently available in MC8.5

8.5 offers waveform syncing for multicamera grouping only, not so much for double system sound. I did write a blog offering a workaround on how to use it for syncing video + audio:

Well, Avid can't do it. You have 2 options really..
1.Entangle for Avid
2.Plural Eyes

Entangle is great and is still free in beta, you can try it for free (edit8.com)
Plural eyes has strange but workable flow.

Avid CAN do it! Avid MC 8.6...and I think 8.5...has a feature to auto sync your footage via waveform. This is SINGLE TAKE only, meaning one clip of audio and one of video. If you want a timeline built with multiple audio and video clips all strung together, you'll need Pluraleyes...but OLD pluraleyes. Version 3...Version 4 no longer works with Media Composer...doesn't export AAF, only XML

Single take is ok. But having whole structure broken down to sequences from loads of footage is better. Did you try beta Entangle for Avid?

It says on the website that Entangle only supports AMA... doesn't seem like that would fit into a lot of folks' workflows. Am I missing something?

Also, using Avid's group by waveform for clip based audio sync can work, but it is a painful process if you want to keep clip name, and have it be a .sync clip that tracks out of sync in the timeline. I describe the process in my blog:

http://24p.com/wordpress/?p=280

If you just want to use it as a group clip, you can, but may have other issues arise later such as relinking and such if needed.
