Which time code do I generate for transcription services.
on Sep 10, 2015 at 8:12:42 pm

I am going to begin working with a transcription company who will be translating Korean to English.

When I output these files do I simply put the files on a timeline generate timecode and send that or do I burn the timecode we used to film the scene with?

Thanks,

Always check with them. I have had some transcription services that didn't need timecode burned, and instead used the timecode embedded the Quicktime files. Different places tend to work differently.

How would I generate subcaps if they did that Richard?

They need to send you a txt file formatted to be imported into the Subcap Effect. If you open the Effects & CC guide in the help section of your software, it will go over how it should be formatted. Likewise, I'd ask them if they have dealt with providing text formatted to be imported via Subcap.

Thanks again Richard,

One last question. Would it be standard to use the source time code put it on a time line and generate new timecode. Both would work with the subcap generator I believe I just dont know if there is an advantage of one over the other that I am not thinking about.

It usually depends on what you intend to do with the results. For example, if you are sending out a locked and you want to get a list of translations to correspond with points of your final edit, you'd want to send out a burn with the timeline's master timecode. If you are you sending out interviews for transcription for script sync, you'd want source timecode.
