Batch capture previously consolidated footage
on Jun 9, 2015 at 4:56:23 pm

Hi! Here's the scenario...at a company using a Media Composer V 6.5.2

I ingested long interview clips with lots of space in between takes where the camera kept rolling. After ingesting, I cut these clips into a sequence and cut out the stuff in between takes, then consolidated the sequence. Months later, the media drive bit the dust, so now rebuilding.

When I try to batch import a consolidated clip, it cant do it. The console says:
"Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie."

I'm certain this has nothing to do with mixed resolution because the same files from the same shoot that weren't consolidated come back in without any problems.

Is there a way around this? The alternative is incredibly time consuming. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Dan Brother

Are you trying to batch import into the consolidate clips or the original master clips from the original import? If the former, it will not work. If the latter it should.

The consolidated clips. Once I consolidated, there was no reason to keep the original as it's not what I would use to edit with.
Sounds like this space saving maneuver turns out to be a HUGE mistake. UGH...

Do you still have the sequences that were cut down from the original clips?

Also, you "should" be able to AMA link to the files, then select the clips and your edited sequence and do a "relink to selected" with some trial and error in the relink option dialog box.

So not all is lost (yet).

I will give that a shot. Thanks Michael!

Yes I do, but once consolidated, it adds .new to each clip. So although the timecode is the same, it seems to recognize as a new clip. Which is understandable, but it's seems odd that it can't just see the timecode and re-import based on that alone.

Batch import was never designed or implemented that way. Just the way it goes. But the AMA link workaround should work in this scenario.
