Audio Strippers

Now that I have your attention :)

I posted this on Avid forum and no reply:

Is there a way to strip extra audio channels from a AAF linked file (from Resolve)?

I accidentally exported over 800 clips with all 16 channels intact.

Sure I can re-export but there must be a way to shut if off within Avid bins.

Bit of a pain deselecting tracks too.

I was in a rush and didnt check that audio channel option.

I find it odd that Resolve defaults to all possible channels.

There are ways to deal with it:

If you want to automate a subclip process because you might want to get back to the other ISO audio channels, it can be done via an ALE export, text edit, merge back in as described in my blog here:
http://24p.com/wordpress/?p=200

If you just want to dissacoiate the master clip from whatever tracks, it can be done with an "Unlink", modify (Tracks), Relink" process as described here for AMA, but works for non AMA as well in this blog:
http://24p.com/wordpress/?p=50

thanks again Michael for the tips.

After looking into it, this might break the round trip back to Resolve for me.

The second tip only work with AMA files.

Avid is not seeing the files as AMA links since they were processed from Resolve 11 to MXF DNxHD36.

It shouldn't change anything with a Resolve round trip as the subclip references the master clip and they share the same TAPE or SOURCE FILE that is used for conform.

The unlink/relink method works for AMA and non-AMA clips -

Thanks Michael that did it!
With the AMA link tip I can even delete the extra audio clips but find that to be the hardest to do manually.
The only thing I am finding is that at first the Relink loses it during a session.
When I close the app and open it comes back up easily by just relinking a single file.
Then after closing the app and back in, I noticed some files are missing again.
But a quick relink on a missing one brings back all the files in bins.
I have them all in 15 different bins each for day of shoot.
Hope its just a simple memory bug.
Ill keep testing and see what happens.

Again thanks!

It will unlink at first as you cannot modify when it's linked to media. After modifying, you have to select all the clips and do a relink. That will reconnect it to the media.
