Guys did a stupid thing. I've attached a screen grab from AMA manual of what I shouldn't have done. Is their a way to fix this?

Just to make the process clear...

You AMA'd to the camera orignals, then added Tape names? In an AMA worflow, there would be no value in the Tape column to start with. Is there still a filename in the AMA column?

Yes there are still file names present.

With this project we modified the tape source for each clip to have another layer of organization. We assign each location production is shooting a number and wanted to bring that number across to each clip for easy relinking to camera originals. BTW we are not on a unity system.

Other projects we have not done this with - we just thought we were getting more organized. It's just that we do already go in and modify clips to correct the amount of audio tracks we want (the F5 seems to generate 8 audio tracks in the field and we bring the clips to just 2 tracks). So at the same time we found that universally we could modify the tape source and quickly pop in our identifier number for that location. It saved us from manually pasting in the number under the Tape ID column for 300 clips for each location.

We did find a work around - it's slow but we are bale to relink to the camera originals and have the clips pop up in out timeline. I can explain the process if any one is interested.

You can add metadata to any selection of clips in any user editable column such as your location info very easily. For example, in a custom column labelled "Location", highlight all the clips in the bin that need that metadata tag. Move mouse to any clip under that column and the cursor will change from an arrow to a "text edit" cursor. Right-click and you can select from the menu:

set column for selected clips...

So in this example, it would say:

set Location column for selected clips.

A pop up box appears. Either type in what you want or copy/past. Click OK and that will be added to all selected clips.

I avoid applying different MOBs in Media Composer. There is a Source File MOB and Tape MOB that drives a lot of different stuff behind the scenes such as dupe detection, etc. If AMA'ing, then it will be tracked via the Source File column.
