Can you do these effects in Avid?

00:00:08 and 00:00:11

I'm interested in the red colorization after the white flash frame and then the blown out look in the center of the image in the last part. If I need to do it in AE, so be it.

Thanks for any guidance.

Those are film burns. Composited on top of the footage at cut points. You can get those here:

http://editwithlight.com/

But then in order to do Composite mode, you need either BCC (that comes with Avid MC) or Sapphire. You use the SCREEN MODE in the composite to mix it like that.

Oooo...I bet you can. I haven't tried. The Avid FX interface always intimidates me...for no good reason.

All the online guys I know don't like Avid FX at all, but I think for such a simple composite it should suit my needs.

I do notice a lot more of the editors requesting the Sapphire plug ins every year after NAB so people are starting to like having more capabilities in offline.

I love Sapphire...my only issue with them is that they cost nearly triple what the Avid software costs. No plugin package should cost more than the NLE itself. If they want a wider userbase, they need to make it affordable.

Yes their booth at NAB is tiny and I'm sure they're realizing that they'll have to get cheaper, just like everyone else. The demos I saw looked amazing and I think they have some of the most realistic lens flares and lightning bolts you can find anywhere.

Make a hard cut on V1
Drop the film burn clip on on V2 with the full burn right over the transition
Add avid FX to the film burn clip on the timeline.

Patch to v2 and go into effect mode click Avid FX to open it.
Avid FX will show both tracks click on your film burn clip and change the composite mode to "Add".
I like to bring the opacity down a little bit as well. Do this in Avid FX instead of MC.

Apply. Now Go into FX mode once again and drag this effect to your FX favorite bin and name it burn transition or "add mode 60per opacity" and drop it on all the rest of your burns. Or you can make one at full opacity and use it to change composite modes on any clip.

Think of Avid FX as your "inspector" in FCP/Motion parlance.
