AVID, relink with different tape name
on Jul 14, 2013 at 9:24:18 am

Hello everyone,

We are using osx avid, and DaVinci for our MXF creating and editing workflow.

In last project the data guy forgot to input TAPENAME into mxf while exporting from DaVinci this causes DUPE DETECTION in avid to stop working. The editor didnt mind in first day and started editing. After he did a few sequences and some selects, we created the data again, with TAPE NAME in MXF files.

Now we are trying to create new AVID project linked to the new MXF and have the same sequences as in the old one. The Project are identical, the MXF are identical (names, count, timecodes) except for the new ones have TAPENAME in metadata.

So we exported EDL from the old project, imported to the new one, and nothing happened, we also tried to relink the old ones with BATCH IMPORT. No possitive result.

So I have a few questions for you. Is there a way to make dupe detection work, while the mxf doesnt have TAPE NAMES in metadata? con to that, is there a way to transfer AVID projects BINS, Sequences and all the edits to the new project and relink them to the new MXF files? (same count of them, same timecodes, same names, just missing tapename in metadata)

Thanks a lot for your answers. We are kinda new to AVID. So all informations will be much appreciated.

Have a nice day

When you exported EDL from the old media, what was the EDL showing as a source name?
