MXF files: portable?
on May 29, 2013 at 7:22:53 pm

I have MC6 on a MacPro tower and also on a PC.
If i've imported files of various original formats on the PC, can i copy and then quickly import the resulting MXF files on the Mac, with success?

please let me know.

I don't have a network or server/raid to share the files.

thanks.

Just copy your entire Avid MediaFiles folder from the PC to the Mac. Put it on the root of your Mac media drives and open Avid.

If you copy a project over too it should automatically relink.

If you're staring a new project and need to populate your bins with the media then drag the database file from your Avid MediaFiles folder into a bin and it will populate it with master clips. The database file is either msmMMOB.mdb or msmFMID.prm. I'm pretty sure it's the msmMMOB file.

Just make sure to bring the BIN that has the clips that points to those MXF files over as well. That's the best way to do things. Bring over MXF only, and then you need to try to get Avid MC to bring in ONLY those clips, and it can be tricky.
