Remove Advanced Pulldown from P2 Footage
on May 21, 2013 at 5:24:48 pm

Hello,

Is there any way to remove advanced pulldown from 1080/24pA material from an HPX170 within Media Composer?

Thanks!

In file based world, you would be better served shooting native 23.976pN than trying to remove it later in post. You also get a 20% increase in storage capture with those P2 cards.

But that aside, open your clips in a 1080i/59.94. Then open those bins in your 23.976. A mix and match motion adapter will automatically be applied leaving you with 23.976 native for editing.

Thanks Michael for the motion adapter advice.

Unfortunately 24pN options are not available in 1080 using DVCPRO HD. Only pA.

Ah... too bad. It has been a while since I have touched any of these formats. The latter will work for you though.

The HPX 170 and HVX 200 and 200a make better images at 720p than 1080, in my experience. I ONLY shoot 720p 24PN with those cameras. Then cross convert to 1080 for delivery. Always looked great.

Hi Shane,

That's typically my workflow for the 170 as well but unfortunately I had to be mixing with previous footage from a Blackmagic Cinema Camera, a 7D, and a GoPro Hero2 so I was trying to match as much as I could to keep everything playing together nicely.

I know, the amount of of mess here is astonishing!
