best export settings for HD quicktime avid media composer

Hi

I am exporting a short film from Avid Media Composer 5.0.3.
The film was shot on the Red Epic Camera but the footage was transcoded to DNxHD 1.85.

I need to Export the best HD 1920x1080 Quicktime possible. What are the best settings for this.
I was previously told to use animation but the file comes out at 42gb and stutters when it plays. The quicktime 1080p is needed for a film festival and projection on a cinema screen

Thanks

What specifically does the film festival deliverable say? Do they give you a list of accepted codecs?

If they don't, export an Avid DNxHD Quicktime, or ProRes (if you're on a Mac and have the option).

Thanks for the quick response

They have asked for Quicktime HD 1080p.... no more info than that. I contacted them to see if they required a certain codec but they didnt respond.

I assume they are going to project the film via a desktop computer and I just want to achieve the highest resolution without causing any lag during playback.

If they can't supply a codec type...they don't know what the hell they are doing. Well, they might know a little...but when asking for deliverables, you need know enough to give specifics.

Yeah - thats what I thought.

This was the only info supplied

Screening formats in order of preference are (1) 35mm (2) DCP (3) Quicktime 1080p (4) Beta SP / Digi-Beta (5) DVD

the quicktime format would be the easiest and cheapest for me. Is Avid DNxHD 1.85 the best output for exporting?

yeah...I'd opt for that if it was me. DNxHD...185? I know there's 175. Is that a new one?

wow!
While DNxHD is a free source decoder, not all venues know enough to have the DNxHD playback decoder installed on their system. Without knowing, for sure, I'd opt for H.264, AKA AVCHD. This is a pretty widely accepted playback format, these days.

185 is an option for us in PAL land!

Best
