Avid PC at work, to Avid laptop at home
on Feb 13, 2013 at 6:25:30 pm

Hi Guys,
I did post this before but am still having problems.
I'm not very technical and am working a dry hire avid suite on a PC and need to work from
my Macbook Pro laptop, or tower, but am having trouble getting the media to re link.

I only need a long synch pull to take home to cut down and bring back to relink to my media at work.

PC = running Avid5 - 5.5.3
Apple Mac Pro laptop, 10.6.8 = running Avid version 3.0

Any help would be vert gratefully received.

Cheers,
Dan.

I have managed to make it work, by making an AAF.
Can anyone please tell me if this will cause a problem going back the other way, or for the online?

Thanks,
Dan.

There is no need to make an aaf.

Copy your media to a drive, and take it home with you.
Copy your project folder to that same drive.

At home, copy that project to the same location as the rest of your projects and open it.
(or open it as an external project)

Your media needs to be in an avid friendly location, so put it in an Avid Mediafiles/mxf/* folder, where * is a number of your choosing.

Launch Avid, let it rebuild its database, open the project and off you go.

Thanks for the post.
The thing is there is loads of media. It has MXF's added
to it every night. To locate it all is quite difficult. I tried 'reveal file' for a few but they are mixed up with
other media files.

Cheers,
Dan.

Copy the new media (to find it highlight all the OLD media...MXF files...in the RED color...label them. Any new media will not be colored) to your home system, and bring over the new bins. Or keep your CUTS bin separate, and bring home the updated projects, and put the CUTS bin in the new project.

Rename your avid mediafiles/mxf/1 folder to something else.
Run automatic ducks media copy to isolate the media from the item you want. (build a sequence of the clips you want to take home, tell autoduck to copy media from that sequence)
every morning- after new media has been added, put it into a separate folder to keep it organized from now on.
