Lost deck control in Xpress Pro Mojo

New problem on an old system. System specs should be in signature below. Yesterday I got a NO DECK reading in the timecode window in the Capture tool. Usually a quick check to see if everything is routed correctly and/or using the Check Decks button in the Capture tool and/or closing and re-opening the Avid cures this. Not this time. I checked Deck Configuration in the settings tab and noticed these settings: box 1: Direct on COM1 box 2: Firewire on NO PORT linked to Panasonic AJ-D455P, which is the correct videotape machine. I changed the NO PORT in box 2 to Firewire on Avid DNA. This changed the NO DECK message back to my old friend timecode, but now I have no control over the tape deck. I shut down for the day, hoping that a good night’s sleep would magically cure everything, which sometimes happens in computerland. Not this time. Same problem today- no deck control. I can still capture by controlling the deck manually, but that’s no way to edit. Oh, and the following lights are ON on the Mojo: 48KHz, DV, Host, Power. Any ideas?

Not 100% sure, but I don't think you get FireWire-based deck control through Mojo. If you attach the deck directly to the computer, it should work.

Usually, with such a deck, you would connect audio/video to the Mojo (SDI or Component or S-Video or Composite or DV) and use a deck control cable (with a Rosetta Stone) between the RS422 connector on the back of the deck and the RS232 connector on the CPU.

One of my problems is that it's not my system (I'm a freelancer)and there there is a lot of routing and switching going on between the computer, the Panasonic deck, an SVHS deck, and a DVD recorder, all connected via firewire at some point. And power cycling the MOJO, along with everything else, is the first thing I tried. I can't help thinking it's in the deck configuration somewhere. The system has been working fine for quite some time. Something happened overnight to create difficulties with the panasonic deck. No new software or hardware installed recently, by the way....

...later....got it fixed, albeit by accident. I tried 'auto configure' earlier with no results. After trying several deck configure combinations I figured "what the heck" and tried 'auto configure' once more. Ta-dah! For some reason it worked this time. Regained deck control. Here's a weird part- even though the DV desk is a Panasonic AJ-455, the auto configure function called it a Sony BVW-75, on COM1. The other box now reads 'direct on No Port. Go figure. Well, it's working. For now. And thanks for the input.

I'm gonna write this down....
