Work flow for file base Multicam Projects

Just wondering if there is a preferred method for getting file based media into MC 6 for a Multicam project using an offline online workflow?
The original 6 camera angles are recorded to an Omneon spectrum all timecode synced. The spectrum gives me the option of XDcam HD422 50Mbs in a MOV wrapper or MXF.
Then the files are moved to a central Media sever with its own project partitioned out.
In MC 6 should I Import the original source material at its native resolution of XDcam, then after the import transcode to a low res offline format for the edit. When the edit is complete relink back to the import online footage.
Or should I Link AMA to the original source clips then transcode to the offline resolution and then relink back to the AMA clips for Export?
Or is there a third way that I’m not aware of that is even better.

I would AMA link, transcode to offline and then relink back. I'm sending you copy of my XDCAM workflow guide via Facebook (I figured better than post your e-mail address on a public forum). Hope it helps.

Could you post that guide as a downloadable link from here using Cow's file upload feature?

I included a disclaimer to explain the circumstances of our show / workflow. It's been a big work in progress, but this iteration has been solid from ingest to online thus far. Hope it helps!

I guess my first question would be why bother with low res offline? If you used DNX36, it's not really saving much space over full res XDCAM 50 mb/s , is it?

might not save much space, but might run smoother with 6 angles in dnxhd 36

Ah yes. Probably right about that.
