creating stereoscopic clips
on Mar 30, 2012 at 3:36:18 pm

Hi,
I got 2 bins from my producer. Each bin contains 1.500 clips. One bin contains the left eye clips, the other bin the right eye clips. No metadata available.
How can I create stereoscopic clips without group naming each stereo pair?

Thank you
Charles

Not even a common name or timecode?

The clip names are starting with 20.000 for the left eye (20.001; 20.002….) and the right eye clips are starting with 30.000.
The TC is ascending. But unfortunately the start TC of a stereo pair varies about a few frames. Cause it has been filmed with Nanoflashes that haven’t been in stereo mode. So one or the other recorder started a little bit earlier as the other.

Any ideas???
Thanks
Charles

Sounds lithe edit assistants going to be very busy!
Looks like manually is the only way.

For group naming purposes you can always export an ALE of all relevant columns including S3D Group Name and open in Excel as a tab delimited file. In the S3D Group Name column, have excel name the clips in ascending order. Do the same for the other eye. Make sure both eyes are sorted in similar order before exporting and opening in Excel. This will at least get you a common group name on which to create the S3D clip.

As far as timecode, or not, or not having first frame of file match, that will be a manual process of defining sync between the eyes. If there is a known and consistent offset, one might be able to add a Mark In column in Excel with the timecode value and use that once ALE file is merged back into the original clips.
