Avid Audio Duration Sync Problems
on Feb 8, 2012 at 11:19:06 pm

Hey Guys,

I am having serious syncs issues with the final audio mix down of my project. A search thread does not show how to resolve this issue.

Both the durations of my Picture output Quicktime mov file and Final audio wav files (L+R) are 00:12:04:02 on the hard drive.

When I bring them into my project bin by Link to AMA the duration of the wav file changes to 12:03:08. The picture remains the same at 12:04:02

I drop both files in the timeline and they match in length. If I sync the 2 second pop, the dialogue is in sync in some places but not in others.

I converted the Wav to Aif but again when AMA linked into bin (or even imported) the duration is 12:03:08.

Note: The audio final mix was done in Pro Tools and exported.

My project settings are:
Avid 5.0
NDF
Video:
1080p DNxHD 175
23.98
Audio:
Wav
48kHz
24bit
23.98

I never recommend using AMA for BWF or audio files as it passes it through QuickTime at which point all bets are off. Try again by importing the BWF and see if the same issue arises.

Thanks Michael.

A direct import of the WAV results in same issue (clip duration just increased by 1 frame, 12:03:09)

I have played around with the Import settings e.g importing at DNxHD 175 X MXF, unchecking/checking "Sample rate convert source sample rate to project sample rate" but problem still persists.

Avid does ask me for Audio Start-Time Options: I import at 23.98

Is it also a problem if files are WAV instead BWF?

It seems that there might be an easy fix by changing a simple setting somewhere but just can't figure out which one it is.

What is the sample rate, frame rate of timecode when opened in something like Wave Agent?

48k, 24 bit, 23.98 rate.
Working NDF.

Glenn, I will have to ask the sound designers re protools.

Thanks.
