Which import setting and colour space is best for Media Composer 6?

I'm a final cut guy moving over to MC. I usually edit with HD material but i'm having to grab some footage from a DVD (unfortunately) this time. I figured Avid DV codec would be better than the Apple DV codec, but not sure which settings to use.

I've been researching, and I've found different opinions between 601 and RGB colour space. Avid DV codec seems to be the accepted standard (I got the Avid mpeg workflow guide), which does recommend 601. I am using MPEG Streamclip to transcode the DVD.

Thanks very much.

Thanks

all avid codecs (except the ones named with RGB) are 601/709
that would include Avid DV

if you use MPEG streamclip to encode your files to Avid DV
make sure they are 601, and lower field

in your import settings put 601
and in your media creation settings, put DV 25 in the import (411 if you're in 30fps countries)

now, when you import the files, Avid should mark "fast import" on the import window.
meaning you are merely re wrapping the files into MXF

if not, you could link the files by AMA, and see if you can work with direct link, or transcode them if you feel it lags
