Cannot import mpeg2 media from Storz medical device

Has anyone in the medical field worked with media files from the Storz endoscope? The codec info shows mpeg-1/2 video (mpgv). This codec is not compatible with Avid import. Can I install the codec into Avid or do I need to convert the Storz media files into an Avid useable format? Thanks.

Yes, thanks, that will work. The challenge is the surgery may have over 2 hours of video divided into 12 min. clips, that's the way the Storz scope's video is recorded. So I can encode the assorted clips in Streamclip, import into Avid, make a seq., maybe add Timecode FX and output the over 2 hours to tape/DVD so the surgeon can make an EDL. I found out Premiere Elements will take the 12 min. clips directly off the Storz DVD and I can create a seq and output to tape/DVD.
I was hoping Avid would allow adding the new codec for these clips and import directly into Avid, saving the Streamclip step.
I've sent an email to Storz asking their advice.
