Exporting from After Effects to Avid MC5 (again!)
on Nov 17, 2011 at 5:07:07 pm

Hi There

I'm doing credits for an Avid Project (DNxHD 185, 25fps, 10bit, 1080x1920p) in After Effects. I've exported it to DNxHD185 for Avid but the credits look a little strobey on playback. I'm trying to keep the settings identical as much as possible. Any extra tips?

Thanks

Jack

Is it doing a fast import when you bring it into Avid?

Hi

Not sure what you mean by 'fast import'?

I'm not using AMA, Avid makes it's own MXF of the files as per usual. Takes about 3mins I think.

Stroby:
Usually, this is because the speed of the vertical motion (I'm assuming vertical credits) from AE. You want them going at the specific velocity of 60/120/180/240 etc in NTSC...even in HD.

Fast Import:
After that, when you generate your DNxHD file from AE, as a QuickTime, you should see the words "Fast Import" when you import it into MC. If you've 'done it right' with the render in AE and the Import Settings in MC, then the avid merely unwraps the video from QuickTime and rewraps into MXF.

Thanks for the help Jeff, but I'm not sure what you mean about the speed of the credits. '60/120/180/240' are these specific options on AE?

Jack,

That's the velocity of the text in AE. Roll open the X position and you should see a numerical pixels per second value.

Best,

JG
