ProAnimator crashes AE
on Dec 3, 2007 at 8:55:57 pm

I was editing some 3d type inside a previously saved After Effects project (CS3 8.0, System 10.4.9, QT 7.1.6).

I clicked on the ProAnimator button in the Effects window and called up my text.

I then went back to After Effects -- without closing out the ProAnimator window.

Suddenly, none of the menus would work.

All I could do was quit. It asked me to Save, I clicked yes -- and After Effects crashed.

So I "Force Quit" out, restarted my Mac, then tried to open the project again.

The file would not open -- I got a dialog box saying "After Effects crashed while invoking the plug-in Pro Animator.

I noticed in the Finder window, a new file was created -- the name of my AE projects_1 or _2, etc. One for every crash.

I open another project -- no problem.

I created another piece of 3d type, saved and reopened the file -- no problem.

Is my original After Effects project trashed, or is there a way to salvage it?

Hi JonnyHal.

Can you send me your project?
I'd be happy to take a look.

Usually, if you remove the PA plug-in
from the AE plug-ins folder (temporarily -- put
it in a safe place), and reopen the project,
AE will ignore those effects, giving you the
opportunity to delete them from your Comps.

This requires you to recreate your PA scenes,
but at least the rest of your projects remain intact.

Email your project to:

I'll see if the projects are corrupted or not.
