Alternatives to Illustrator. Freehand? Photoshop?
on Jul 27, 2005 at 10:57:07 pm

I have Freehand 10 and of course Photoshop. What I don't have and can't afford to update just for sending text to Zax is a version of Illustrator that works in OS X.

Is there another way to import shapes and text other than Illustrator?

Thanks in advance. I'm running Zax Classic by the way.

Hi Paul,

Can your Freehand export illustrator format files? (not eps, ai). If so, you'll be able to get along. If not, Illustrator is in your future. You might be able to find a cross-grade offer to make it financially feasable. The Pro version of Invigorator bypasses the need for Illustrator-based text converted to outlines. You type your text right inside Invigorator. Very, very cool.

I use Freehand all the time and export as Illustrator 5.5 without a hitch. Give it a try....

This is what I have resorted to. Not a big deal except I was having trouble with Freehand 10 in OS X.4.2 so I had to create the file on my laptop (OS X.3.9) and then switch it over to my Tower to open it in Illustrator. But it worked. Thanks. I think I just made my most favoritest (I know it's not a word) 3D logo.

I am very new to all this ae + invigorator stuff but I am hooked. I learned the other day you can easily change text in photoshop to a shape and then export to illustrator paths in the files menu. pretty easy.

Great tip. I'll try it.
