Monitor?
on May 21, 2018 at 5:45:17 pm

My Media 100 is running on a Mac Pro (2013). The video out selections within Media 100 are limited to firewire, which I used in my previous setup with the resulting monitor signal looped through a Sony DVcam deck to an analog monitor. My current setup does not have a video recorder as everything I now record is on a digital format. I need to get my program out to a large monitor for final quality control purposes. I have a LCD which has HDMI input but the HDMI output of the Mac Pro is just a digital monitor extension.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello,

You'd need to obtain some video hardware that can output to a monitor.
Did you find a solution in the end?

There are some suggestions on the Media 100 website in the Frequently Asked Questions section:
https://www.media100.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions-media-100-suite-v...

You could simply get a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter from Apple, and do exactly the same as you used to - however, Firewire only gives you a choice of DV or HDV out.

The BlackMagic Ultra Studio Mini Monitor is the most popular piece of hardware for attaching a video monitor to other editing suites, and unfortunately is not supported by Media 100;
instead, there is support for more fully fledged i/o hardware, such as the AJA IO XT and the BlackMagic UltraStudio 4k - both of which can connect to your cylinder Mac Pro via Thunderbolt.

The Intensity Pro referred to in the FAQ, is the older card you put inside an older Mac Pro tower, and not the modern shuttle versions that work via thunderbolt - I do not know if those work yet. They might. If you get one, let us know, =).

Some people are using older AJA or BlackMagic cards via a Thunderbolt PCIe chassis too. The FAQ mentions the Sonnet's Echo Express SE II.

Media 100 is free to download these days,
so you can ask the sellers of any equipment you're considering buying,
to download Media 100 and see if it works with it first,
before splashing your cash, =).

For my system, I have my Mac cylinder mounted in a Sonnet xMac Pro Server enclosure. The 3-bay PCIe expansion chassis included in the enclosure houses a AJA LHi video card which allows me to output via HDMI and SDI to an external monitor. The other two slots have an ATTO H680 mini-SAS card and a Sonnet Allegro Pro USB card which enable connection to a 3-bay JBOD HDD enclosure and access to my OWC Mercury Rack Pro 16GB RAID5 array.

I also have a Sonnet Echo Express III-R rack chassis. This has a Sonnet Tempo SSD Pro Plus card and an ATTO R680 mini-SAS card. (One slot is open.) The Tempo card is eventually going to be used as my boot disk for Mac and Windows. It is already set-up for MacOS, but I don't have Windows installed yet. The ATTO R680 mini-SAS card is the controller/interface for an OWC Jupiter Kore 8-bay HDD enclosure.
