Best installation sequence?
on Jan 11, 2007 at 12:31:58 pm

So I have this new MacPro coming as early as today and my Kona LHe card has already arrived. I will be installing FCS, Combustion and ProTools with a Digi002 rack. Any suggestions on a proven install sequence?

Thanks,

Vince

Connect to the Internet.

Run "Software Update" to allow the Mac to update the OS, Quicktime and other features to the latest.

Install Final Cut Studio.

Run "Software Update" to allow FCS to update.

Restart the Mac.

Run "Software Update" again just to ensure that everything needed for FCS did come through, sometimes there's a Pro Apps update that will come in two parts and the 2nd part comes with the 2nd update.

Launch all of the FCS apps to ensure they open up properly.

Install your other software, ensuring that you have all the latest updates for them and launch each one as you install to ensure that each opens correctly.

Forgot, after you install and test FCS, then go to AJA.com and download the latest drivers and the AJA Control Panel for your LHe. Do NOT use the CD that comes with the LHe, always download the latest from the website.

Install both and again, launch Final Cut Pro to ensure it opens correctly and you now see the AJA Kona presets.

NOW install your other software and test each as you go along.

You can install the Kona right away (if you want). Just don't install the Kona software until after you 've installed Final Cut Studio.

yep, install it before you even plug in the Mac Pro.

Make absolutely sure that the Expansion Slot Utility runs and that you choose the second option in the utility. If not, your LHe will not work properly and will cause you hours of pulling your hair out.

For some reason, the app didn't load when we inserted the card after the power-up. I had to search for it. It's at:

/System/Library/CoreServices/

Just run that little applet and take option 2. That'll do the trick.
