What type of power conditioner/batter backup systems is everyone using? I have a APC Smart-ups 1500 but I was just curious what other options are out there.

Furman makes some nice ones. you can get them at http://www.musiciansfriend.com or any guitar center store.

I run the APC's here as well.

I use the Furmans for the A/V equipment and APC's for computer / hard drives.

Greg - you should be using an APC Smart UPS 1500RM2U. It's about $600, and you can't get it at office depot.

I am using an APC Back-UPS XL 1500, which I got at Office Depot -
this is NOT WHAT YOU WANT. You must mail order this product from someone like B+H or CDW or Tiger Direct. Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples do not have what you want.

Why? I just run the APC's I pick up at Costco for about $100 each. They all work fine here. They're all APC 1500's.

If you are using this on your MAC alone, it's fine. But if you have your entire system plugged into it, it will not be able to provide enough power for all of your equipment, and VTR's, and monitors. Lot's of gear requires a big UPS. A single computer requires only a small unit, like you have on your computer.

Yeah, that would be. That's why I said I have all my A/V gear on the Furman's. We have 5 APC units in the shop, one dedicated to each computer and/or hard drive array. We have two Furmans in our Rack unit with all A/V equipment running to those.

[walter biscardi] "We have two Furmans"

What kind, Walter? If I recall, they have a huge range of products, including a very expensive unit which reconstitutes the power from AC-DC-AC and eats up lots of energy in the process.

I've been fighting a ground loop here and have been looking at various strategies.

One says RP-8 and one is PL-Plus. I think they're both in the $100 - $300 range.

I think they sell these by the pound, they are full of copper windings and weigh a ton! It's a very interesting concept, read on.
