Break-in At Red digital Cinema

Due to the nature of this I wanted to post this note from the CML List.

There was a break-in at the RED offices last night. Everything they took was camera and camera file related. We will NOT be slowed up by this distraction, but we are offering a $50K reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those that did this.

Jim Jannard

and a follow up

The reward has been raised to $100K.

Wow!

Corporate espionage at it's finest? I hope that this is not the case and that it was just a couple of really dumb robbers. Other than burying it in an abandoned mineshaft, they would never be able to sell this camera and related gear/info on the open market.

Makes you wonder if some of RED's larger Japanese competitors might have been involved though, huh?

Hope that they catch whomever was the perpatrator.

Best,

Dan

soon, we will see the new "Hundai BLUE 4K camera". I guess that's not funny.

Does this mean the Dec 2006 release will be pushed back as a result?

Has the FBI been notified?

Dumb question but was the prototype camera not in a top security vault? If not then why not?

Or some really desperate indie filmakers did the deed.

Seriously though - this is a pretty crazy story. I hope they nail whoever did it.

Appropriate authorities have been notified.

Engineering target of december 2006 and shipping target of early 2007 have not been effected.

The prototype stolen is essentially a block of aluminium - it's utterly useless to anyone other than to go in our museum.
