DPX>QT Translator.. WOW!!

Not sure what this little app does but I'm impressed..

Image seq of DPX (2048x1556) into shake.. loads 1 frame a second off a striped x-raid.. got about 300meg a second off it..

Now I ran dpx-qtt made a reference movie... 350k. Now this QT plays back at 16fps full screen.. and scrubs REALLY quickly in Shake compared to loading it via an Image seq of dpx's...

hows it doing this? I did a diff matte and the images are the same..

thats what ref movies do... while apps like shake were meant to handle single frames, the QT engine underneath was not, but adding a "wrapper" on the DPX files the video will now play as fast as the storage will allow it to.

Also understand that the DPX to QT conversion can also be done in other places and with Aja's own DPX to QT converter.

Now remember that to play out the 2K file you will need 2 things first is the Kona 3 card and second is more / faster storage. to play 2K out at near real time you will need multiple arrays striped together over 4gig fibre because your data rate for that 2K material is something on the order of 320 mgs a second, not possible on a single 2Gbs apple fibre card.
