Clip name characters
on May 3, 2011 at 2:24:54 pm

We're tying to get our Ki Pro to conform to our internal naming convention so we can use our current automation routines. Is there a way to add underscores? (e.g. DecN_060410_01, DecN_060410_02, etc)

The manual does not state a specific character set other than UTF-8, of which underscore has a place. But the entry cannot seem to be made using the front panel controls.

The Ki Pro supports a variety of UTF-8 characters. However, the "_" character is already in use for the custom clip naming convention's Custom Clip Take parameter. To avoid file naming "collisions," it is not included in the set of alphanumeric characters presented to the user. Upper and lower case letters, numbers and some symbols, such as periods, spaces and dashes, are included. Using the example provided, "DecN_060410_01" is not supported via the provided characters, but "DecN-060410-01" or "DecN.060410.01" or "DecN 060410 01" would be supported.

Additionally, files transferred to the Ki Pro Storage Module can support names with underscore characters; keep in mind that with this example, Mac OS X warns you if a file name is already in use if you try to copy a clip with the same name to the media.

If you need additional clarification on file naming or any other Ki Pro operational matter, don't hesitate to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

The dashes could work. We'll have to test. If not, it means everything we get from the Ki Pro will have to be renamed after the fact. Still, it seems from your answer that this restriction is not necessary and could be updated in the firmware. Please consider this. Thanks.
