AfterEffects failed encoding DVCProHD
on Apr 16, 2009 at 7:43:59 pm

Hello,
My XENA LHe card is working fine with PremierePro CS3.
Also fine with AfterEffects CS3 except a problem about DVCPro-HD codec.

DVCPro-HD files(.mov / AJA-Quicktime) rendered w/ AE-CS3 looks
weird everytime. It looks like painted in dark green and vivid pink!

But any other uncompressed AJA-Quicktime codecs are rendered correctly,
and DVCPro-HD files captured w/ PremierePro CS3 are successfuly imported
on AE's composition and looks fine.

PremierePro CS3 can render DVCPro-HD files correctly as well.

Please let me know if anyone have a solution for the DVCProHD rendering(encoding) issue on AE-CS3 issue.

Environment
OS: WindowsXp Pro SP3
CPU: intel Q9400
RAM: 4GB
VGA: QuadroFX570
M/B: Asus P5Q-E
XENA driver version: v3.5

I think the issue is likely that the QuickTime DVCProHD codec is not distributed by Apple with the PC version of QuickTime.

ProRes, DVCProHD (QT) and the QT-wrapped HDV codec are all confined to Mac use I believe...

The DVCProHD files you imported into Premiere natively as MXF P2, or captured through the HDSDI input on your Xena card are (as you discovered) formatted properly for the PC.

Tim,
Thank you for reply, but AJA provides their original DVCProHD
codec not only for MacOS but also for Windows(XENA boards).

So XENA can ingest HD-SDI signal as QT(.mov) files of DVCProHD
codec on PremierePro and AfterEffects.

And we can select "AJA-Quicktime" format on AfterEffects' render-
settings, it is different from conventional "QuickTime" selection.

AJA-Quicktime provides some uncompressed codecs(8/10bit, YUV/RGB)
and DVCProHD codec. Any other popular QT codecs(PhotoJPEG, Cinepak etc.) are not supported.

[Hideki Suzuki] "AJA provides their original DVCProHD

...embarrassed to say that I've used the Xena board for years and I just found that out earlier today. I guess it's a workflow i don't use so I never paid much attention to the DVCProHD QT support...

Sorry about that.

This seems to point to After Effects, or possibly QuickTime itself...

have you tried to reinstall QT? Then, if that doesn't work, AE CS3?
