I'd be upgrading from 2.0.2.0. Would I expect a smooth upgrade? This won't affect AE and PPro projects created in 2.0.2.0, would it?

Is it as simple as running the install? Will all my preferences remain in tact? What about backwards-compatibility with projects created with 2.0.2.0 or other workstations in my company that may not perform this upgrade immediately? (We all "share" projects at times.)

Sorry for all the questions; I once had a bad experience upgrading my previous workstation's Bluefish444 drivers, and now I'm cautious about any similar upgrades.

James,

That is a good question. There actually will be some minor changes you'll need to make when you upgrade. When the versions upgrade, some of the project settings will reset to their Hardware defaults, and you'll need to be sure to reset them by hand, and then resave the project.

1) First of all, make a renamed version of your project file, so that you can have two copies of it. This will protect you against any kind of project corruption. We certaintly dont expect this to happen, but its always better to be safe.

The project you'll need to reset by hand that may be reset when you upgrade will be the following:
a) Playback settings, especially the "primary format".
b) AJA Device Control Settings will be reset to their defaults. Double check them and make sure that they are still set where you need them
c) Premere Pro Audio Device: This will be reset to its Premiere Pro default of "Windows Audio Device". Reset it to the XENA ASIO.

3)I highly recommend that if you have multiple XENA seats in the same facility that you run the same XENA software version on all systems any given time. So if you upgrade one, just spend the extra 5 minutes on each system and upgrade them all.

Thanks. I just finished upgrading 2 of our 4 systems (the two LH workstations; the other two are LS).

I tried to upgrade one of the LSes that has 2.5.1 on it, but it gave some cryptic error regarding some documentation for 2.5.1 that it can't read. The upgrade then fails. Since it fails during the initial "registering the product" phase, nothing was changed.

So, for the time being, I'll leave that workstation at 2.5.1. It's a "spare" workstation used mostly for DV projects anyhow.

I think I may know why the install for my LS 2.5.1 workstation failed; I tried to use the LH 2.6 setup on it.

Are the LS and LH setup files different and specifically made for the LS or the LH?

If so, perhaps that should be noted somewhere on your site. Maybe in the filename itself?

James,

Try just running an uninstall of the 2.5.1 installer from Add/Remove Programs. Then run the 2.6 installer. This might solve that problem for you.

I've noticed now with 2.6 installed, the first time I open a project and play one of the timelines, there's no audio playing from my speakers.

If I minimize and maximize Premiere, the audio then plays fine.

I noticed this occasionally with my old 2.0.2.0 driver installed, but now with 2.6, it seems to happen much more frequently.

It's not a big deal, now that it's much more tolerable to minimize and maximize Premiere with 2.6 (no more dreaded lag), but still, slightly annoying (and a little heart-stopping) nonetheless.

Something else (sorry).

Now with 2.6, when I open the titler, my TV monitor seems to jump into a resolution it can't handle. It gets all staticy and looses sync.

When I exit the titler and return to the timeline, the TV reverts back to the normal 720x486i state.

Is there some setting I'm not seeing? Perhaps in Machina?

I didn't have this issue in 2.0.2.0.

I have the Xena LH card. My monitor is getting it's signal via SDI. It's not a HD monitor. It's a Sony PVM-20L5 minus the ~$4,000 HD card.

Titler Issues
on May 31, 2007 at 6:25:28 pm

I did a little more trouble shooting on this titler thing.

It appears that when I open the titler while in a SD 720x486i job, the output jumps to 1920x1080i. Hence, the static.

When I return to the timeline, the output returns to 720x486i.

If when I'm in the titler, and the output has jumped to 1920x1080i, I can go to Project... Project Settings... General... Playback Settings... and manually force it back to 720x486i mode.

From then on, that job will be fine; future instances of the titler will correctly display at 720x486i mode.

But the process starts over again with a new job.

This doesn't appear to happen in a 1280x720 job; the titler behaves in a HD job.

Odd? Bug? Incompatibality? Wrong setting on my part?

That's a little wacky...

I've not experienced that exact behavior.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling PPro? Maybe there's a preference that's fudged.

It's not too big a deal. It only happens the first time I use the Titler in a new project. Once I "fix" it, it doesn't happen until a new project is started.

I'm not about to possibly screw something else up to try and fix this minor nuisance.
