Questions Capturing SR on the IO HD
on Dec 7, 2009 at 4:18:42 pm

Hey guys, we have a client who needs to capture about 12 HRs of SR material as ProRes. He'll be using an IO HD box and he's running a MacPro 2.26 8 core. With 3 750 RAID drives. Does the IO pose any problems when capturing SR material? Or is it like capturing any other soure material?

The only problem i see is if he needs to capture 444 material. The IO HD does not have a dual link SDI connection.

Not capturing it in 4:4:4, just going straight Prores 422. If the material is for some reason 444 the SR will convert it to 422 if need be. That's why i'm thinking this shouldn't be a big deal but you never know.

Yeah, not a big deal. As long as it's single link, the ioHD will be totally great.

Ok so i've set this up and it's doing some wierd stuff. I have an SR tape playing in an SRW5500 going into the IO HD, the tape is 1080 59.94i. Ive set the IO HD to 1080i 29.97 and picked ProRes422 IO HD 1080 29.97. When I go to capture I get deck control but the timecode is jumping, the footage is playing slow and the stop and play button in the L & C window are blinking alternately. Anything i'm missing here?

Sounds like you are trying to capture 24p media in a 60i time base.

Just updated FCP, seems to work now. Captured a clip but now when I play it back in Final Cut, I see audio levels but hear nothing. The mute controls are off in the timeline.

Choose the proper easy setup. Hit control-q and make sure it's AJA ioHD.

Double check the external video and audio are on in your View menu in FCP.

The strangeness continues. I Quit Final Cut, unplugged the AJA Device, reopened the project and played the clips. Now I hear audio, a sigh of relief to hear something. I have a feeling playing back the clips with the Deck and IO still active was muting the audio in my actual Bin and Timeline. Wierd.

The audio was going out of the ioHD. If your ioHD has no mixer or speakers hooked up to the outputs, you won't hear anything.
