Using IO HD and IO sd on same system at different times
on Jan 12, 2008 at 9:01:54 am

Hi Guys

I have a MacPro and a MacBook Pro. I just got my IO HD and the manual says to uninstall the IO before installing IO HD.

I guess that pretty much means I can't switch the two boxes back and forth at will?

there is no need to..

The IoHD can handle all of the same formats in SD that the original unit did so there is no need to have both on your computer at the same time.

Hi Gary

I'll see if I can explain a little better. I'd like to take the IO HD and use it on the laptop or Mac Pro as needed. When I take the IOHD on the road for instance...I'd like to hook up the IO to the Mac Pro to monitor SD etc...does that make more sense?

you can only have ONE set of drivers on the machine at a time. The two sets of drivers will conflict with each other.

With that said, I know someone who is doing exactly what you are doing, with both sets of drivers on the machine at the same time, and so far there is no issue for him, but this is NOT recommended.

Sure would love to know how they are doing it! I thought about cloning separate drives/systems...kind of a painful way to do it though...

the uninstall / reinstall of of the Io software takes only a couple of minutes. you need to keep your prefs or presets separately.

I bounce between Kona 3 and IoHD like this every couple of days.

What about having a partitioned system drive with the seperate software and switching between the two with a restart? I've got a 500 gig system drive anyway....make sense?

Thanks guys!

That'd be the easiest way.
