There are some great features on the IO HD! Especially timecode in/out!!!

But I've started to think about timecode in. How exactly will it work?

Will it be able to accept timecode from a "noncontrollable device" in FCP? (Like a telecine output?)

What happens if the video signal or timecode stops?

What if there are timecode breaks? Will it create multiple files or just one file with breaks in timecode? Or will it crash FCP if the timecode jumps!?!

Response from AJA support:

The TC input will allow you to capture TC into FCP such as capturing live
video from a camera with LTC.

Not sure what will happen if TC is not present since we don't have one yet
to test with. My guess is the TC goes to 0:00:00 or you perhaps TC break
message...don't know for sure.

The LTC input of the Io HD will function like this product:

Thanks for your interest in AJA, please let us know if you have more
questions.

Thanks

Rudy

That's why I love AJA!!!! They respond!!!! It's worth the money!!!!

So the real question is less about what AJA will do and more about what FCP6 will do. I'm hoping that you can switch FCP6 to external timecode like you can a deck. And if there are timecode breaks, then it will make a new clips (after it's been digitized in). Not likely to happen, but here's to hoping!

Yep, that's how I figured it would work. What I want to know now is if I can also send tc out from FCP timeline to a deck that doesn't accept assemble edits, but still be able to have frame accurate manual records. That'd be pretty sweet too. Time will tell...

I'd imagine you will be able to switch FCP6 to non controllable device yet still capture tc. At least I hope.

I've got the same wish here as I have the Panasonic 1200 deck. At NAB, AJA sounded like they pulled some strings with Apple to start getting serious about timecode. With QT 7.1.6 being able to display timecode, things look promising.

Dang again, I hate waiting.

I'd rather wait than have a partially working product that is shipped.

Noting more frustrating then buying the gear and then waiting for all the features to be released/unlocked later.

I know AJA has been working hard on this box.
