Hello,

From the NAB show floor in Las Vegas, we are pleased to announce Io HD, the next generation of our popular Io series, delivering HD editing to the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro via its unique Firewire 800 (IEEE-1394b) interface. Io HD is the first and only device to natively support Apple

I noticed on the FCP 6 promo clip that there is a setting for ProRes422 NTSC. I assume that's an SD setting: Is this done in hardware too, and what is the data rate?

Very cool device!

Thanks

From the ProRes 422 White Paper - thanks to Avid2FCP.com and Martin Baker.

Apple ProRes 422 is also ideal for capturing and preserving not only 8-bit, but also
10-bit SD sources. It captures either bit depth at data rates similar to DVCPRO-50
and IMX-50, which support 8-bit depth only.

How does

"Io HD is the first and only device to natively support Apple?s newly introduced ProRes 422 post production format in hardware."

differ from

"Multibridge Eclipse - Full compatibility with the new Apple ProRes codec in Final Cut Pro"

Both were announced at the same time; both do it in hardware?

Hi,

The Io HD is the only device in the world to support the Apple ProRes 422 codec in hardware.

This is the culmination of another joint engineering project between Apple and AJA. The Io HD therefore can support full 10-bit 4:2:2 full-raster HD over Firewire 800!

Awwwwww man!

Looks like I was on a hot trail back in January!

Kudos to AJA and apple playing together nicely in the sandbox of NLE and IO devices. I'm pretty excited to see how the product works. If it's anything like my IO, it will be rock solid for life!

Could you comment on how audio will be supported on the new io HD, given the challenges we experience with the io LA?

Will Soundtrack Pro 2 be fully supported on the io HD?

Thanks

Hi,

The Io HD has an all new driver built by AJA, that is a Core Audio driver, unlike the earlier Io's. Because of this, interactions with audio applications will be easier, as the Io HD should show up as a Core Audio I/O device in most cases.

Until we can do final testing with configurations of the shipping Io HD driver and the shipping FCS2, we will have little detailed info. When Io HD ships in July, we will have detailed performance and compatibility information to share.

Thank you,
