Io and HDV
on Dec 4, 2006 at 3:32:37 pm

I'm looking for a portable solution for editing on the field HDV but I have been told that the Io does not support HDV playback on a NTSC monitor is that true? If it is what are my posibilities
for doing so.

firewire from the HDV camera into the laptop. You will need an AJA HDP to convert the DVI output of the laptop to HD-SDI, and then another AJA converter to downconvert the HD signal to analog composite. If you have the money for a Panasonic BT-HL1700, that has an HD input, you can feed the output of the AJA HDP right into the panasonic to see a video signal.

The AJA Io is an awesome device for SD video, but was never intended for HD. The Matrox MXO is the solution most people are going with right now if you have a Macbook Pro.

You can also find some threads about the MXO by searching on the Final Cut Pro forum here on Creative Cow.

Yes, I am VERY happy with the Matrox MXO on the Mac Book Pro. Since I am working on a dual G5 in the studio with a Kona card, and most of my footage is from the HVX 200, now I can just take my finished DVCPROHD 720p24 project and final sequence render over to the laptop, and play out from FCP in HD or SD anywhere I go! I will be exhibiting this way at the SF Film Festival this Friday, outputting to a $40,000 HD projector. It looks awesome!
