Audio stuttering P Pro 5.5.1 & Kona 3
on Oct 25, 2011 at 3:56:36 pm

I am constantly getting stuttering audio with Premiere Pro 5.5.1 and Kona 3. I am using the Kona 1080i 29.97 with Canon 1080p video as well as ProRes 1080p video converted to that same format. I am using the 1080i preset because I need to see the HD and NTSC versions at the same time and the Kona 3 does not show both HD and down converted SD at the same time with the 1080p preset. Audio playback via the the computer line output is fine. I am using the Mercury Engine via an NVIDIA GTX 285 card. Same issue when I swap in a Quadra 4000 card or using software acceleration only.

The audio plays fine via Final Cut 7 which is installed on the same machine.

Preferences > audio Hardware. Set that to anything OTHER than the AJA Kona.

Preferences > Player Set that to Adobe

Thank you! Completely counterintuitive and worked like a charm.

Yep, I did tutorial video on Vimeo about this. I believe it's also in the READ ME notes that come with the plug-ins.

This is all supposed to change when CS6 is released and we get new AJA drivers.

Yeah, I saw the Read Me- thought it meant that I could not use the Kona 3 for audio playback. Just couldn't believe that it was true- once again tripped up by my assumptions.

Thanks again. Hope you are right about CS6. Maybe Adobe will also allow us to have more than one project open at a time.

[Chris Paul] "Maybe Adobe will also allow us to have more than one project open at a time.

You can. Import > Project. Brings the entire project into a Bin. Double click to open the Bin. Presto, two (or more) projects open at the same time.

Even though this post is several months old, thanks for the tips, here, Walter and Chris. I loaded up Premiere for the first time today for some R&D as an alternative to FCP. Two steps forward one step back was the order off the day, but a start, nonetheless.
