I recently purchased 2 4 TB Cal digit VRs for use with my mac pro Kona LHI box. Currently I'm using them with Firewire 800 but I wanted to see if I can get up to the 220mb/sec transfer rate the manufacturer specs promise, by running them Esata. Although I would love a dulce or Cal digit raid I'm just not in the market for that kind of purchase yet. Can some recommend an ESATA PCI card for use with the 8 core so I can get a bit more punch from my esta drives.

Anyone testing 6GB/s cards and drives?

http://www.attotech.com/products/product.php?cat=10&scat=23&sku=ESAS-R680-0...

My system doesn't have PCI 2.0 so I don't think I can move up. I do have the E4P and it has be great but RAID 0 is what I have to use. Just thinking for down the road.

I am testing the ATTO R680 RIGHT THIS SECOND (I am taking a break).

The R680 is not eSATA, it's SAS, like all modern hi end RAID arrays from Maxx, Sonnet, G-Tech, JMR, Cal Digit, etc. And it's an expensive card. There are no 6 Gig SATA drives - just 6 Gig SAS drives (which are 4 times the cost). When 6 Gig SATA comes out, the world will change for us, and this should be in less than 6 months.

Bob,

does that mean I should hold out and see what happens before I plunk down on a raid?

saw a 6GB Sata drive at best buy today, 2TB for $240.

Also I thought each SAS port can break out into 5 eSata cables. But I guess you would also need a new enclosure with a 6GB backplane (at least that is what I would think)

Simple esata card for Mac Pro, no drivers needed.

Will support 6gb.
