We recently installed the Adobe CS5 Production Premium Suite on our three Final Cut Macs with the LHe card in two and one with the Kona 3.
We then installed the new Kona 8.0 Driver & Control panel.
Next, we installed the 'AJA Mac Plug-ins for Adobe CS5 Version 8.0'.
In reading the "KONA_PC_Manual_5.0.pdf" we noticed that there may be new functions for Capture and playback in After Effects and Photoshop. Is this true for the MAC version as well? As we do not see the Capture or Playback features under the "Window" menu in After Effects. Or the Capture or Playback features under the "File" menu in Photoshop. Are these PC only features?
I ask this because we are also getting some pretty nasty crashes in AE and Photoshop. On the Kona 3 machine, export to monitor in PS crashes PS right away and won't even work. On the LHe machines, the crashes aren't as often, but still happen, but for the most part, Kona output works. In AE, Kona output works, but switching between FCP and AE isn't possible, as AE won't let go of the card. We noticed in the above Kona manual, there is mention of a "automatic or manual option" for release of the card. Again we do not see this option on our systems, given the above missing dialog windows. Also AE crashes on quit and on the Kona 3 machine the card is crashed and the system has to be re-booted. On the LHe, the issue is the same, but not as often.
Testing with Premiere is also not producing good results. Poor sound monitoring, non-realtime playback and again the card crashes on exit of Premiere. On the Kona 3 system, after closing Premiere, audio on the machine is bad, sounds really slowed down, including system sounds. Going back into FCP won't work as the card is crashed, even the Kona Control Panel can't take control and send bars to the monitor.
Here are the specs:
OS 10.5.8 on all machines
Kona 3 card or Kona LHe card.
On the Kona 3 system, GRFX card is the ATI Radeon X1900
On the LHe systems, GRFX cards are the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and Geforce 7300 GT.
All have 16 GBs of RAM, one LHe is a dual duo-core and the other two are dual-quads.
Could there be OS and GRFX card issues? Kind of at a loss. AJA support as not responded yet. FCP on all machines is working just fine! So, sorry for the long post, but it should just about cover the issues. Any suggestions or thoughts are much appreciated!
