AJA Kona 3 Sync Problems
on Jul 30, 2010 at 12:23:24 pm

Just wondering if anyone has experienced random loss of lip sync when using a Kona3 with FCP?

I am using the "B" output of the card to go to the monitor, and I wonder if this could be causing the problem?

All the Kona drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

It's possible your monitor is introducing a delay. You could easily have 3 frames there
how are you monitoring audio...Kona thru D>A
If the monitor has a disembedded audio output try monitoring that. It'll should be the same timing as the display.
we monitor the audio off the flanders (FSI) disembedder to ensure sync.

Thanks for the response,

The monitor we are using is a JVC HDSDI glass monitor which has negligible latency so I doubt whether this is the cause. The really annoying thing is the randomness of the problem!

I should have pointed out on my original post that the problem only exists on the monitoring - all exports to quicktime are fine.

We used to have this problem a lot and eventually identified it as the wrong driver. Installing the NDD driver it.

Apologies for the slight gibberish;

We used to have this problem a lot and eventually identified it as the wrong driver, installing the NDD driver solved it.

David,

I have worked on many Kona3 systems with many different configurations and I've nearly always had lipsync problems. Agreed, on export everything looks fine though. Have learnt to live with it and tell clients not to worry about it.

Try refreshing the output device as that seems to help.

Also we have had huge problems with the Kona card & animation codec movies locking up systems with the BBOD.

fcp>system settings> playback> change playback offset from 4 to 0

Gaps between clips in sequence not filled with slug can cause loss of sync.
