Simple advice:

Do a complete backup of your system (I use Carbon Copy Cloner), then do an "erase and install". This will format your hard drive and install everything from scratch. Run System Update a couple of times till you're completely up to date, then install your applications, run the updaters, etc.

Make sure you have plenty of coffee, beer, whisky, whatever on hand.

Make disc images of your video applications. It takes a while to do, but the installation goes lightning fast, especially if you ever need to install again, or on to another system.

I would be afraid of bringing along any contamination of the last 2 years. I am starting with a brand new system drive and clean installs of OS X, FCS3, CS4, etc. Also replacing drives in bays 2-4 which compose my apple raid card raid.

I am saving my existing system drive and putting it on a shelf. When I say clean install I mean clean - new drive. Thanks

you have just stated my advice. Put in a new drive (a 500 Gig SATA drive costs 60 bucks), and do a clean install. If things go wrong (they won't) - they you can always go back to your old drive. I don't get all this "carbon copy" crap - drives cost nothing today. Do a clean install, and you will have ZERO problems. The AJA 7.1 NDD driver works flawlessly. You will have no problems.

Bob - thank you for being the only person who seems to get what I am doing. All 4 drives are being replaced and all fresh installs.

I know you by reputation - any land mines I should know about in this endeavor?

Mac Pro Early 2008 dual quad 2.88
Currently 10.5.8
FCS 3, FCP 7.0.1
8800 GT video card
Apple Raid card for bays 2 - 4
Kona Lhi
Bella Pro Keyboard
Various FW800, Esata and USB drives
Source P2 (duel adaptor on my MBP w. 10.5.8) and Beta SP

Thanks - the big switch is about 12 hours away.

It seems to me most systems need a serious enema around 2 years.

Cheers,

no -
I do this all the time. Clean OS-X 10.6 install. Upgrade to OS-X 10.6.2. Then install FCS 3. Then upgrade via web to FCP 7.0.1 (free). Then install AJA Kona drivers 7.1 (NDD only). No problems.

This is real life, not a science experiment. You have to stay in business.

(oh, if you have a drive array that requires specific drivers, like Maxx Digital, or Cal Digit, or Sonnet, etc. load these before you load FCS3).

My raid is an internal apple raid card and bays 2-4 so i guess it's on with the show! Thanks!
