Converting 720p 59.94 to remove progressive fields

So i'm doing some research and testing, trying to figure out if it's possible to take a 720p 59.94 source and either convert/compress to eliminate all the progressive fields, essentially creating a 720 29.97. Is this at all possible?

First off- what are you trying to do? You are obviously new to HD and to 720 in particular, since HD deliverables are most often at 60i or 60p in the US.

The SMPTE spec for 720 is to always play at 60p- there are no fields in this format, as every frame is progressive only, so content shot at frame rates other than 60 will need to have pulldown added to make the output 60fps.
