genlock with Pilot tone
(oh, I crack myself up).

Do you mean that you are using the antique reel to reel Nagra. Why use FCP and AJA at all - there are wonderful Steenbecks and KEMS out there - thats what the REAL FILM EDITORS work with.

I guess Grandpa never heard of Zaxcom.

The answer to your question is that you take the ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUT of your Nagra (is it on a bananna plug ?), and go into the ANALOG XLR INPUT of the AJA Kona LHe. You will need a bananna plug to XLR cable (I guess you are making that up, because no one sells these !).

On your FCP system, in Audio/Video settings, go to NON CONTROLLABLE DEVICE, because even if you have a Nagra IV, Final Cut Pro does not acknowlege linear time code. You could get a Horita box to force your linear time code signal into the RS422 port, but you will probably forget time code (I bet you have a Nagra III) and just send in your audio "free run". Will it lock up ? What the hell do I know - the Nagra is pretty damn stable, and it should lock up with your picture.

Even if you have a Nagra T, you will still face the same sync issues.

By the way, Stefan Kudelski says "thanks for still thinking about me".

Do you have to go through a resolver first to account for tape stretch etc., in order to maintain crystal sync? with 24 fps film, I assume you did use crystal sync and shot double system to film.
