software vision switcher

Hello all,

We are doing a sports coverage job and during the shoot the client wants to mix the wide shot camera with graphics info etc and put it on a big screen.

Any one know of a software package with SDI capabilities to vision mix one camera and some effects.

There are many DV or firewire ones but I'm looking for a downloadable grass valley switcher!!!!!!

We have a Mac Octo tower Kona three and the recommended graphics card for colour.

If you were on blackmagic cards you could use their live switching tool that comes free...but I understand this isn't really going to help as you're running K3s.

I cant think of any options for Konas off the top of my head, but I'll look into it.

Failing that you're looking at either converting the signals or investing in a real mixer :)

Kona3 has the ability to play video + a keyed or alpha channel graphic over it.

Would that help?

so tim, how are you going to get the multiple cameras into the switcher (kona card). I know how - you are not going to.
You are in dream land.

Newtek makes the tricaster, which is a software switcher that uses an external hardware box for all the inputs and outputs.
http://www.newtek.com/tricaster/

And blackmagic offers an application for switching between two input sources, but you want a GVG software swither.

Today, you can buy the Panasonic AV-HS400 switcher, which gives you multiple inputs, frame sync inputs, keying, DVI input for graphics from a PC or MAC, DVI montior wall out, etc. but I know you dont want this either - BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND ANY MONEY.

You want to just use your damn Kona card, download some free software, and have an instant GVG 100 for nothing, and do professional products.

Well, you can't have it - EVER !

Thanks Jamie,

I wound up back at a BMD Decklink Card in a discarded tower and will use the keyer in it.

Interestingly found a few software switcher solutions for Houses of Worship but funnily enough they are mostly about keying words to songs!!!!

Bob - I only wanted to put some simple supers over one camera and the Grass Valley reference was tongue in cheek!!!! See the exclamation marks!!!!!

Lighten up :)

I don't understand why you can't do this with your Kona?

Hi Jeremy,

As I mentioned the job is at a sporting event.

I have the Kona 3 in our colour suite and wanted to avoid pulling it apart to set up at a water skiing event in the dust etc.

I guess I was tapping the minds of this forum and I got what I needed, Jamies' suggestion of BMD got me thinking about an already dusty tower downstairs.

Job Done!!

Thanks

Hi Tim -

Blackmagic and AJA can do live keying - this is the blackmagic description -
DeckLink cards can be switched to keying mode with the Blackmagic LiveKey application. Output graphics from Photoshop or other software in SD or HD direct into production switchers, with fill and key output on the two independent SDI outputs on DeckLink HD Extreme.

Blackmagic offers the "On Air" software which allows you to cut and dissolve between their two inputs, but I am pretty sure that you can't do this AND do a key at the same time.

Blackmagic On-Air features all your monitoring, mixing and recording from the single large application window. This allows better feedback between functions, so your situational awareness is greatly enhanced, an absolute must in live production. When a camera is live, On-Air can display a soft red "tally" border around the camera display. When recording, you can also enable a soft red border around the program display. Mixing can be operated by large animated buttons, or via the keyboard. With tally borders, you can keep your eye on the action, while knowing the status of the mixer and recording at all times.

Lighten up ? What if you can't accomplish this ? You still have to do the job, don't you ? How will you be able to eat if you have to rent a switcher ? How can you sleep tonight ?

Bob,

FYI: We can do independent streams into a single AJA card :)

We have an upcoming demo in Burbank that shows this being done in another product we are offering.

Also, a couple years back we used our DiceHD product (which is a keyer, character generator) and did video switching amoung other things. Is that ready for prime-time software release, no. It was a special gig for Comcast at CES. All our current customers are using this for watermarking. But, this unit uses up to 6 AJA boards, so technically we could make it do 12 channels for a switcher. In our spare time......

Take it easy,
Ramona
