Hey folks -

A production company I work at has just purchased a DVW-A500.

System is Kona LHe, with an AJA Gen10.

I just want to double check I am configuring reference properly among these devices, including the correct settings for the AJA Kona LHe control panel.

What is the best configuration?

Thanks in advance.
Jesse Gordon

Make sure you have the proper Gen10 output setup for standard 525i blackburst.

Set your control panel for ref in (right click on the Ref in triangle in the control panel and choose ref in).

Set the dbeta deck (OUT REF option) to EXT and be sure to take it out of EE and put it in PB.

Thanks for your response.
I am still a little bit confused.

I will connect 1 cable from the GEN10 (SD sync) to LHe Ref Loop IN

I will connect 1 cable from the GEN 10 (SD syn) to the DVW-A500 Ref IN

is this correct cabling-wise.

Also you said:
"Set the dbeta deck (OUT REF option) to EXT and be sure to take it out of EE and put it in PB"

On the DVW-A500 There is a switch labelled "OUT REF" beneath it there are the options "input video" & "ref" you are saying put it onto "ref"??

Finally what is meant by "take it out of EE and put it into PB"

Sorry for all the questions. I have worked in plenty of edit suites with a similar configuration, but I have never had to properly set up the Ref myself, and I want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks

your cabling is correct. One cable from the GEN10 to the Dig Beta REF Video IN, one cable from the GEN10 to the LHe REFERENCE IN. Make sure to open the AJA Control Panel, click on CONTROL, and put it into EXTERNAL REFERENCE (not on Internal !!!!!) Otherwise it does nothing.

There is a button on the front panel of the DWV-A500 called
PB PB/EE. This button should be in PB (the little green lite will light up do indicate which one you are on. EE means electronics to electronics, and it puts the VTR in a mode that is identical to when there is no tape in the VTR(even if there is a tape in the VTR), so you can see the incomming signal. When editing, or digitizing, you dont' want the VTR to go into EE mode. If you really want to know the details, I will tell you, but just push the little button on the A500 to PB.

Oops, I'm sorry. Bob got it. I guess I should look before I respond.

Thanks. Super helpful post.
And hey, if you really feel like divulging the details of the EE/PB settings I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Jesse

[Jesse G] "you are saying put it onto "ref"?? "

Yes, sorry about the misdirection there. I was going from memory.

[Jesse G] "Finally what is meant by "take it out of EE and put it into PB" "

There should be a switch or button in the front that says something like PB and EE/PB or PB/EE (sorry going from memory again). Make sure you are just in PB. There should be an indicator letting you know you are in PB mode only.

Does that help?

Jeremy
