best upconvert?

Was wondering if Teranex is still the best way to go. I have a 52 minute doc in SD 10 bit uncompressed and want an HD SR master.

Thanks in advance!

do you mean, is the Teranex Mini, the same quality as the larger boxes, or can you get away with the Kona 3 upconvert ?

Highest quality vs what we can afford is the goal here. I visited this topic 18 months ago and we ended up sending it out for the big box Teranex. We were happy with that, but would like to know what has happened since because at the time Aja solution wasn't great.

Show is 16x9 anamorphic.
Interviews shot in Digibeta, but quite a bit or archival material from 1945-1960.

BetaSP, DigiBeta upconvert perfectly using the Kona 3. DV can be a bit iffy just because it's a much lower resolution format and I've found about 50% of the shots I upconvert have the "jaggies", which are usually present in the original shot.

can you test the footage you previously converted with the terranex and upconvert the same footage with the kona2/3? you would get a really good indication of how well it can look.

I have done various tests comparing Teranex Mini versus Kona 2, FCP Scaling/Rendering, InstantHD (plug-in) and Avid DS Nitris. I tested 480i to 720p and 1080i upconversion. In all cases, the Mini exhibited the best results. Kona 2,3 is good, but not as good as Teranex Mini. This is particularly evident in any footage that has definite diagonal lines that will display interlaced aliasing issues and anything with mixed video-over-film or mixed 3-2 pulldown cadence. Solid graphics and text will retain their integrity better when upconverted through the Mini.
