Hello,

From the NAB show floor in Las Vegas, we are pleased to announce Io HD, the next generation of our popular Io series, delivering HD editing to the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro via its unique Firewire 800 (IEEE-1394b) interface. Io HD is the first and only device to natively support Apple

Really cool stuff, and congrats to the whole team at AJA for creating another great piece of gear.

What about Kona HD cards - how do they deal with the ProRes codec?

Hello,

Apple ProRes 422 is supported in the same way as other supported codecs in FCP, like DVCPRO-HD...KONA 3, etc. can write to directly to it, and and of course play it back.

Stay tuned, it's gonna be a fun show!

Thank you,

Will the new box ONLY support the Pro422 codec or can it send a signal with another codec such as DVCProHD or SD uncompressed?

Thanks!

KW

Hi,

Io HD also supports SD uncompressed, 8-bit and 10-bit, as well as DV25 and DV50 in Final Cut Studio. Basically, it's ProRes 422 for HD, and then in SD it supports everything the original Io does!

[Devin Crane] "Does it support Live capture?"

That would be my first question on the floor. I am wondering myself...

Yes it will with TC over camera BNC.
worked really hard on that one thing....

Wow, that is excellent news, now I imagine FCP6 will be able to handle the non-VTR structure of this?

Is ProRes422 good enough to capture live?

Just curious...

I just ordered the upgrade to FC Studio 2 but I also ordered the Adobe production Studio, so I'm anxious to know whether the IO HD will also work with Premiere Pro on a Mac Pro

it's a little tightly branded with Apple. i would not hold my breath nor expect it to work with primary editors outside of FCP.

Since the bandwidth for HD is limited does that mean that any HD editing realtime FX will have to be rendered into the Apple codec before it can be output? I mean if FCP is outputting the timeline as uncompressed during realtime processing then there would be no way to fit that down the FW800 pipe.

Since the device is external I see one of two things that could happen.
1. We will have to render our entire project to make sure all FX are in the new Apple codec. This would make it sort of like how DV editing used to be where all FX had to be rendered to DV before they could output through firewire.
2. FCP 6 converts on the fly through software into the Apple codec during playback of the timeline. This of course uses up resources because the system is rendering to the codec on the fly but then we wouldn't have to wait to render first.

I think the ProRes422 is cool, but it would make more sense to me just to add a SDTI for Native ingest of HDcam footage and support Mixed timeline of HDcam and DVCpro HD. This box seems to be geared more for the Film guys.

Nevermind to what I said, I read the white papers on the FCP6 site and looks good. However I would still like to see Native HDcam editing. Unfortunately Xpri is the only one that does this.

xpri is dead and currently only quantel can handle native HDCam.

Excellent product...not sure how I can work it in to my LH's and IO's yet, but I'll figure it out! :) Question... with LTC Timecode I/O does that mean we can finally have realtime TC out of FCP into a Beta deck?? In other words, hit record on the deck, play on the timeline, and IOHD will send audio, video, AND timecode?? And I hopefully assume "chase" TC from the timeline to a monitor from a deck or other device??

That would be huge.

I have my fingers crossed too.
